North Fork Retrievers is located in western Tennessee, just outside Dyersburg, and has proudly served hunters and competitors from across the region for decades. Our purpose-built facility features thirty-two individual dog runs along with expansive training grounds designed to support every stage of retriever development. From young prospects to seasoned working dogs, our setup allows for focused, consistent training in a controlled environment.
At North Fork, our trainers are committed to one standard: excellence. We take pride not only in producing dependable, high-performing retrievers, but also in building lasting relationships with our clients. Clear communication, proven methods, and hands-on experience guide everything we do.
We specialize exclusively in retriever breeds and provide professional training for serious duck and goose hunters, as well as competitors participating in HRC and AKC hunt tests and the Super Retriever Series. Whether your goal is a reliable hunting partner or success at the highest levels of competition, North Fork Retrievers has the experience and resources to help you get there.
Our Training Programs
Every program we run is built to turn out a well-rounded retriever, and clients are encouraged to come out as often as they can and learn alongside their dog.
Basic Obedience runs about a month and suits owners who do not hunt but want a well-mannered companion, covering sit, stay, here and down.
Head Start Puppy is for owners who do not have the time to socialize a new pup themselves. We introduce your puppy to birds, gunfire, travel and plenty of people, so that formal training later begins on solid ground.
Basic Gun Dog takes four to six months. It opens with a month of obedience on both voice and whistle, tests retrieving desire on hand-thrown birds and dummies, and includes force breaking and collar conditioning. From there the dog works marks on land and water, with gunfire, live birds, dog stands and blinds added as steadiness builds.
Advanced Gun Dog is a two to three year commitment for anyone who wants a finely tuned dog that handles on whistle and cast, or one campaigned in AKC and HRC hunt tests and the Super Retriever Series. Dogs learn multiple marks and handling through Baseball, Force to Pile, Single and Double-T drills and swim-bys, then move on to pattern blinds on land and water.
